SQL to Hadoop
"More organizations, small and large, are interested in moving their data from SQL relational databases to an Apache Hadoop back end. Although SQL is always a solid option in many cases, Hadoop has advantages in data processing that are battle-tested by several major web properties. These days it seems that Hadoop is the best game in town for "Big Data" handling. For users that want to either experiment with Hadoop or put it into production-use, there are a couple of tools available for migrating SQL data to Hadoop. They include: Cloudera's Sqoop, cascading.jdbc, and cascading-dbmigrate." - see details here

"This mobile application has one simple but effective feature, it allows you to save a location in Google Maps. So for example, when you park your car you can find your way back to it's exact location. Or, imagine you have checked into a hotel in an unfamiliar city, you can store the hotel's location and always be able to find your way back no matter where you wander." - our mashup Mobile maps on Google Maps Mania.

Where is my car?
Mobile service 'Car parking place' via our mashup Mobile map. This service lets you save your parking place right on the map and find it later easily. Screenshots, step by step:
1. Open the web page in your HTML5 mobile browser (iPhone, Android, Bada). The draggable red marker shows your current location:

2. Set the place (location) you need and hit on the marker. You will see an information window lets you create a new map with the saved location. Link email lets you send that new map by email (you can send to your own address too by the way), sms link lets you share your map via SMS (of course, if your phone does support it, like S60 platform for example) and link will simply open a new map in your mobile browser (it is the most convenient way for this task - just save the map in your bookmarks).

3. After that, any time later when that page is opened you will see two markers on it - saved location and your current location.

4. You can even click on the marker for saved location and draw a route to it (for walk or drive):

"There are a lot of interesting links shared in Twitter accounts that you miss out on because of all the clutter, especially if you are following a lot of people. Going through all the tweets to find those links can be tedious. Links in Twitter is a Twitter mashup that allows you to view the links that have been posted on a specific user’s account plus his friends’ account. How to share your location
Our GeoPost mashup has been updated. Idea is very simple. Many modern blog platforms (most of them actually) let you publish data by email. You can just send email to some service address and platform transforms it into a new post. For example, in Posterous you can send data to post@your_blog.posterours.com, in Friendfeed it is share@friendfeed.com, in Blogger you can set address in Settings->Email&Mobile tab etc.
And our mashup Geo posts lets you create a personalized mobile web application for posting geo related data to your blog. Just set a service email address in the form below and get a link to mobile web application for iPhone, Android or S60 platform. This web application lets you email new postings right from the map - just click on the draggable marker that presents your location. And application automatically adds to email a link to the location. So your posts will have a direct link to some map. It is probably the easiest way for sharing locations, write about some check-ins, lets your readers to see the place you are writing about etc.
Also you can create with this mashup your own emergency communication tool. You can predefine not only email address for sending your location but a phone number for SMS too. So you will be able to share your location via email/sms just in one click.
Mashup creates a personal link for your geo-sharing application as well as QR code for loading this link right into your mobile.
For gmail users mashup supports Google Buzz posting too.

Wire framing
"A wireframe in essence, is a visual representation, guide, and basic element structure of a websites interface design. Wireframes are usually the product of an idea that’s later reproduced on paper (or screen) so that they can preserve and maintain the consistency of visual similarities throughout a websites design. Not only that, but wireframing allows us to save valuable time and money. Deciding to create a website without planning, many times results in a very poorly functional interface. This will ultimately drive users away from your website, and tarnish the quality of your brand." - a very useful collection of prototyping services.

Mobilize your content
Our mashup QR code maker has been updated. Just type (and/or copy/paste) any text, maybe with some links inside, and get two things:
a) mobile web page for this content
b) QR code for loading this page right into your phone (mobile browser)
What is else? You can share this mobile page with your friend right from the mobile (email, sms). You can add files to your page, so they will become downloadable right from that page. Actually you can even use this tool just for sharing your files.
During the mobile page generation mashup automatically proceeds links in the text. You can even add mobile transcoding to the links make content available via mobiles.
Another interesting option is one time readable pages. You can create a page (or downloadable content) that will be destroyed after the first reading. So this option could be used for premium content for example.

How to server static content
From a performance perspective, the trouble with cookies is that once the server sets a cookie for a particular domain, all subsequent HTTP requests for that domain must include the cookie. Even if the server has no use for the cookie, as is usually the case with static components, the cookie is sent over the wire anyway, bloating our request headers with useless code.
So serving static content (e.g. images, css etc.) from a cookieless domain is a standard performance best practice. See more details here.
And JSOS provides several components lets you share your content across several servers. See for example: Load balance and Moved permanently servlets.

Our mashup Geo Talk has been updated. It lets you create forums (discussions) linked to the particular place on the map.
Just mark a place, type a question (suggestion, information etc.) – in other words create an initiation for the discussion and get unique link for the map with embedded forum. After that you can share this link with your partners/colleges, print in your blog / twitter etc. – it depends on your own decision only – who you want to see among readers. And after that you can just follow to the discussion.
No registration required. Technically it is Google Maps + cloud forums from Disqus.
You can discuss some geo points, POI’s (points of interests – shops, bars etc.) or, for example, create a private forum devoted so some meeting in the selected place.
Just for example – forum for Golden Apple bar in Moscow

Models for location update
"The model that is quickly emerging as the de-facto model for location updates is the so called check-in model.
Contrary to the always-on, automatically updating friend tracking model used by services like Google Latitude and Loopt, that has been prophesized and expected to take off for years, the check-in model used by services such as Gowalla, Foursquare and MyTown lets a user manually and deliberately 'check in' to an exact/discrete location and actively update friends and others about it." – from here. Actually it is a really very interesting review.
Btw, one of the early check-in services was our mashup Geo SMS. Lets you check in via plain old SMS. See also its description here.

MapReduce and DBMS

How they did it
The community of developers whose work you see on the Web, who probably don’t know what ADO or UML or JPA even stand for, deploy better systems at less cost in less time at lower risk than we see in the Enterprise. This is true even when you factor in the greater flexibility and velocity of startups. From here.

OAuth WRAP
OAuth WRAP (Web Resource Authorization Protocol) - a simplified version of OAuth. OAuth WRAP is not much different than OAuth except that a client only has to pass the Access Token in the HTTP Authorization header, so it completely eliminates the need for signatures. All server-to-server WRAP calls happen via SSL.
I think it is a future of OAuth. The current spec is not very usable, especially for the mobile services. With WRAP there is no need for the special libraries.

Geo discussions
Forums (discussions) connected to the map. A new mashup Geo Talk lets you create forums (discussions) linked to the particular place on the map.
Technically, it is Google Maps + cloud forums from Disqus.
You can discuss some geo points, POI’s (points of interests – shops, bars etc.) or, for example, create a private forum devoted so some meeting in the selected place.
Just for example – forum for Golden Apple bar in Moscow

JavaScript logging
JavaScript logging package – JS Log. Includes JavaScript library and server side component (servlet). Lets you asynchronously log data from JavaScript to server side and show (display) them independently from your web application. Helps you debug or simply monitor JavaScript code.
For your JavaScript application this logging is actually lust one call:
jsLog.Info(your_variable, title_for_logging)
This call lets you save the value (for objects – all the properties will be saved) and comment (title, caption). And servlet defines a simple HTML interface for showing the saved values. Also servlet saves data in the log file.

From web to mobile
Let us present one tool lets you copy data right from the web pages to your mobile. It is about transferring web content to the phone. E.g. you are going to copy address info, scheduling, driving directions, prices in the shop etc. published on some page to your mobile phone. How to do that?
In general the idea is very simple. As soon as some text for saving is selected we can create on the fly a mobile page with this text. And that mobile page could be transferred right to the phone via QR code. So right on our phone we will get a mobile web page with the text selected from the web. Now we can bookmark that mobile page in our mobile browser and use it any time we need that info
Let us show it on the practice. We will use QR code maker mashup for creating a mobile page:
1. Just select any text fragment on this page
2. Click on the link below:
Copy to mobile
3. Your selected text will be passed to QR code maker mashup and just in one click you will be able to create a mobile page as well as an appropriate QR code.
4. And for the future usage you can save the link above in the bookmarks (actually, this link is a bookmarklet). So this web to mobile service will be available for any opened web page.
You can get more useful bookmarklets here
