RTUWO 2017

Conference on Advances in Wireless and Optical Communications 2017 http://rtuwo.org

Riga, Latvia
2-3 November 2017

Call for papers

Proceedings of the Conference will be published in IEEE Xplore Digital Library and indexed by SCOPUS.

The need for a new communication systems to cope with the demand of new services demanding higher performance, larger throughput, wider bandwidth and lower bit-error-rates, requires the development of new methodologies and techniques. Scientific conference RTUWO'17 is focused on the new techniques extending limits of currently used communication systems. The conference seeks submissions from academia, industry, and government institutions presenting novel research on wireless and optical communication systems. Conference calls for papers describing practical implementation activities, results and issues. Papers describing novel paradigms, original directions, or non-traditional perspectives are also encouraged. Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Wireless communications

1.A. Technologies:

Software-defined radio and cognitive radio
Signal processing for wireless communications

How do you explain Machine Learning?

It looks like the marketing won in math too. As per this thread How do you explain Machine Learning and Data Mining to non Computer Science people? any statistics is machine learning. As I can guess, everything unknown is a deep learning ...

INJOIT: correction

Thanks to Justin Hill from CrossTalk Publisher. He pointed us to an invalid article, which we rashly published in INJOIT. It is our fault and it has been fixed. You can see an updated issue 6 here.

Geo Search problems

Google informed that geo search for YouTube videos will be restored in the second half of 2013 only.

In Facebook API searches for places and pages using the graph API no longer work.

Is it some global disaster with geo search?

Summary for Summly

"Finally, the entire Summly discussion seems to be missing a critical element: there seem to be no happy users of Summly. A search for "I use Summly" reveals 6 hits, only two of which seem unique. For 1M downloads, that's a strange outcome.

But it's not unexpected. For only a robot would fall in love with a product that robotically extracts" - What's Actually Wrong with Yahoo's Purchase of Summly

Two years

Two years ago I've posted a bug in Android browser with parsing SMS URI. This issue is still open: "Come on guys. 10 year old phones support this but not Android?"

P.S. answering to "security reasons" questions: SMS URI does not send SMS actually. It opens SMS client only. We've used it in Geo Messages (add location link to the messages)

iPhone and context aware applications

A great letter to Apple about opening IOS for context-aware applications:

"Developers don't have real access to the radios. That means that developers can't build systems like Tawkon can: that see radiation or energy levels used by the device, but it also doesn't let developers build real indoor navigation apps. You do realize that if you had access to the radios you could tell exactly where in a room you were standing, right? (Wifi is like light, it sprays across a room, and if you can triangulate its strength you'll know where in your house you are standing)."

Really, for network-proximity applications like our SpotEx it would be good.

About the good scientific papers

The classic mistake that engineers make is to talk about features, not benefits. Engineers will talk about the technology and assume that people will know why it's important and believe that it works. But it doesn't work that way. ... It's not very difficult -- it's trivial compared to the technology stuff. But inventors need to have absolute clarity about what their message is: what's the benefit, what's the reason to believe, what's the dramatic difference.
