Two years
Two years ago I've posted a bug in Android browser with parsing SMS URI. This issue is still open: "Come on guys. 10 year old phones support this but not Android?"
P.S. answering to "security reasons" questions: SMS URI does not send SMS actually. It opens SMS client only. We've used it in Geo Messages (add location link to the messages)

Street View Image API
Google provided Google Street View Image API. It is like static maps from Google – you can get a static image for Street View panorama.
Here is a simple mashup that lets you see static panoramic images from your phone: http://linkstore.ru/panorama (it is a mobile site).
You can use also the following QR-code:

Try it with your HTML5 mobile browser (iPhone, Android, Bada, etc.). Mashup lets you see panoramic images for your current place (try to compare what you can see in real with Google’s data :). Mashup displays images as indicates the compass heading of the camera.

Tweet Street View
Drive the streets and read the tweets. Our mashup for Google Street View and Twitter – Tweet Street View has been updated.
Drive or walk with Street View and see tweets nearby. You can see Street View and either an appropriate map or a list of nearby messages from Twitter. So, you can read the latest real-time news for the places you are in with Street View.
By default mashup shows some predefined sites and you can see your own location. Just pass your latitude/longitude pair to the URL. Parameters are
lat - latitude
lng - longitude
So, it looks like this:
http://tsv.linkstore.ru?lat=YOUR_LATITUDE&lng=YOUR_LONGITUDE
E.g. drive through El Camino Real
Technically it is Google Street View (via Gmaps utils) + Twitter search + several mashups from our directory.

Peer to peer location sharing
We are not alone with our Geo Messages
"Services like Loopt and Google Latitude can broadcast a user’s location constantly, but that can eat into battery life and can also prompt privacy concerns. By pulling location rather than pushing it out, Echoecho lets people control when and how they make that information available to others. And since it can be used without both parties owning the app or joining a social network, it’s a simple way to provide location updates." - well said!
Glad to see Google Ventures agreed with our opinion about peer to peer location sharing.
You can see also the presentation from ICUMT-2010:
