On Search Services for Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) data services are designed to be available to other services and users by demand. In other words, in practice, the services should be available at any time and at any location. But the big question here is how the other parties become aware of existing services. Sure, for some use cases we could have a static map of available services. But of course, it does not cover all the possible IoT deployment scenarios. So, the search (discovery) should be one of the keys for Internet of Things. And we can see here the whole analogue with the Internet itself. But for Internet of things, we will face a lot of challenges for search services. For example, we will see a lot of resources (billions of devices), heterogeneity, dynamic nature of services, streaming data, etc. In this paper, we discuss existing approaches for implementing IoT search, as well as approaches for setting standards in this area. See our new paper here.

On Mobile Cloud Computing

Our new paper: On context-aware proxy in Mobile Cloud computing for emergency services

In this paper, we discuss a new model for context-aware computing in 5G networks in the context of emergency services. Our intention is to present a new model for mobile services (mobile web applications) that effectively harnesses the power of 5G networks. The true power of 5G networks is to enable applications that were previously not possible. In our model, we create a mirror (duplicate copy) for mobile sensing data and allow server-side processing effectively use context information during the processing. As a result, we propose a cloud-based context-aware proxy targeting proximity related applications and services.

Our new paper On Internet of Things and Big Data in University Courses

In this paper, we discuss Internet of Things educational programs for universities. Our final goal is to provide a structure for a new educational course for Internet of Things and related areas such as Machine to Machine communications and Smart Cities. The Internet of Things skills are in high demands nowadays and, of course, Internet of Things models, as well as appropriate Big Data proceedings elements should have a place in the university courses. The purpose of the proposed educational course is to cover information and communication technologies used in Internet of Things systems and related areas, such as Smart Cities. The educational course proposed in this paper aims to introduce students to modern information and communication technologies and create the formation of competencies needed for such areas as Machine to Machine communications, Internet of Things, and Smart Cities. Also, we discuss Big Data issues for IoT course and explain the importance of data engineering.

On Mobile Crowdsensing

Our new paper: On Data Persistence Models for Mobile Crowdsensing Applications

In this paper, we discuss various models and solutions for saving data in crowdsensing applications. A mobile crowdsensing is a relatively new sensing paradigm based on the power of the crowd with the sensing capabilities of mobile devices, such as smartphones, wearable devices, cars with mobile equipment, etc. This conception (paradigm) becomes quite popular due to huge penetration of mobile devices equipped with multiple sensors. The conception enables to collect local information from individuals (they could be human persons or things) surrounding environment with the help of sensing features of the mobile devices. In our paper, we provide a review of the data persistence solutions (back-end systems, data stores, etc.) for mobile crowdsensing applications. The main goal of our research is to propose a software architecture for mobile crowdsensing in Smart City services. The deployment for such kind of applications in Russia has got some limitations due to legal restrictions also discussed in our paper.

On Interenet of Things Programming models

In this paper, we present the review of existing and proposed programming models for Internet of Things (IoT) applications. The requests by the economy and the development of computer technologies (e.g., cloud-based models) have led to an increase in large-scale projects in the IoT area. The large-scale IoT systems should be able to integrate diverse types of IoT devices and support big data analytics. And, of course, they should be developed and updated at a reasonable cost and within a reasonable time. Due to the complexity, scale, and diversity of IoT systems, programming for IoT applications is a great challenge. And this challenge requires programming models and development systems at all stages of development and for all aspects of IoT development. The first target for this review is a set of existing and future educational programs in information and communication technologies at universities, which, obviously, must somehow respond to the demands of the development of IoT systems.

Mobile Cloud for Smart Cities

This paper is devoted to mobile cloud services in Smart City projects. As per mobile cloud computing paradigm, the data processing and storage are moved from the mobile device to a cloud. In the same time, Smart City services typically contain a set of applications with data sharing options. Most of the services in Smart Cities are actually mashups combined data from several sources. This means that access to all available data is vital to the services. And the mobile cloud is vital because the mobile terminals are one of the main sources for data gathering. In our work, we discuss criteria for selecting mobile cloud services.
